FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions about maternity photography and family photography.

When is the best time to book a maternity photoshoot?

The best time for a maternity photoshoot is usually between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. During this stage, your beautiful baby bump is clearly visible, but you’re often still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience. Every pregnancy is different, so if you’re expecting multiples or have a high-risk pregnancy, it may be worth booking a little earlier.

It’s best to book your newborn session while you’re still pregnant. This allows us to reserve space around your due date and remain flexible once your baby arrives. Newborn photographs are typically taken within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are still sleepy, curled up and wonderfully tiny.

Yes. Birth photography is one of the most meaningful ways to preserve your baby’s story. Every birth is unique, and my role is to quietly document the emotions, connections and beautiful moments as they unfold naturally. I photograph births throughout Cape Town and surrounding areas, creating treasured reminders of one of the most important days of your family’s life.

Sessions can take place in my studio in Blouberg Rise, in the comfort of your home, or at a carefully chosen outdoor location. I photograph families across Cape Town, Blouberg and the surrounding areas, and together we’ll choose a setting that feels natural, relaxed and true to your family.

I always recommend neutral, timeless clothing that photographs beautifully and allows the focus to remain on your connection. Soft textures, natural colours and simple outfits work wonderfully. After booking, you’ll receive guidance to help you choose clothing that feels comfortable and photographs beautifully.

Please don’t worry. Children don’t need to sit still or smile perfectly for beautiful photographs. My approach focuses on genuine connection rather than forced poses. The most meaningful images often come from cuddles, laughter, curiosity and simply allowing children to be themselves.

Yes. In-home newborn photography allows your family to relax in a familiar environment while capturing meaningful memories in the place where your baby’s story begins. Whether you’re in Blouberg, the Northern Suburbs, the Southern Suburbs or elsewhere in Cape Town, these sessions often feel intimate, natural and deeply personal.

Newborn shoots should take 1 – 2 hours. We allow plenty of time for feeding, settling, nappy changes and cuddles. Your baby’s comfort and safety always come first, creating a calm and relaxed experience for the entire family.

Absolutely. Some of the most treasured photographs are the ones that show the love and connection between a newborn baby and their family. Parents and siblings are warmly encouraged to be part of the session, helping to tell the complete story of this special season of life.

Because maternity, birth and newborn photography are all tied to important milestones, it’s best to book as early as possible. Many Cape Town families reserve their sessions several months in advance to ensure availability around their due dates or preferred timeframes.

My photography style is natural, emotive and connection-focused. Rather than heavily posed images, I aim to capture authentic moments, beautiful light and the small details that make your story unique. The result is a collection of timeless photographs that feel honest, warm and full of meaning.

The seasons of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood pass incredibly quickly. Professional photography preserves the emotions, relationships and tiny details that are so easily forgotten over time. These photographs become family heirlooms—beautiful reminders of where your story began and how deeply you loved in that moment.

Thank you so much for the lovely experience and the most gorgeous photos. God has blessed you with this incredible talent that you have! I love your passion for what you do and it is really reflected in your ‘work’.
